Email dated 2/1/08
hey
things are goin good here. just another week here in tokyo. yesterday we had a conference for all the newer missionaries. i learned some cool stuff. there are 40 million people in our mission. no other mission in the world can say that. there are 203 universities in our mission. thats just the registered universities not junior colleges or other stuff. and there is 1.5 million college university students. again our mission is the only one that can say that. our mission president wants us to focus on these students. they are pretty much the only ones that might listen to us. they are the ones that arent dead set on not believing in god or anything of that sort.
my comp is way cool. he`s pretty laid back. maybe too laid back. i would kinda like to work a little harder. we`ll work on that. elder bigelow from heber is my district leader. and elder kennard was in my district last transfer. but i still havent seen romney. a lot of people have some bad opinions on him. but he is a zone leader. the language is a very slow process. its hard we`ll put it that way. but its kinda coming. just a lot of memorizing and stuff. stuff that im not good at. haha.
idealy what we want to do is work through ward members and get them fired up to share the gospel with family and friends. there has been a few apostles say the when the members of japan do that this place will explode. and if an apostles says it its prophecy. but the members are still scared to go out and talk to others about it so we still are stopping everybody we see on the streets and talking to as many strangers as we can. knocking on doors is kinda uneffective over here. they wont even come to the doors when they are home. but there are always people on the streets.
thats way cool about everybody dressing up for the prophet. we heard about it through the grape vine. everything that goes on just works its way down to us. but thats whats great about the church. there will always be another prophet called. the church is always run by the lord. thats why its the best. haha.
im good over here. all that food and stuff was great. im not getting any skinnier anyway. thank you so much. i`ll be sending a package home soon full of stuff that i dont needanymore. along with some ties that dad can have. im getting quite a collection. anyways thanks for all you do. talk to you next week.

Email to Family dated 1/24/08
HeyWell im still here in the kawagoe area. i did get a new companionthough. his name is elder vandekraats. hes from russia. just kidding. hesfrom new mexico. he`s a skater. today is kinda me real first day withhim. he seems to be a real cool guy. he does seem to like to do stuff alittle different though. oh well change is good. my companion elder holtwent zone leader off somewhere he was way cool. um i`m running out oftime already cause i had so many emails to read from fam and friends. weare going to find somewhere where we can email longer. my comp likesto have a good time so it should be fun this transfer but im stayingfocussed. um yeah monday i had my first experience of asking someone to bebaptized. haha it was fun but he said no. he`s almost there just needsthat testimony to make the jump into the font. he dropped out ofmiddle school so he cant read very well and cant make any sense of the bookof mormon. it might be harder for him to get that testimony. he`s closethough. and we only found him a couple of weeks ago. um yeah otherthan that not much has happened. i got your package and it was way good.tell tresa i haven`t gotten her package yet but should be close. becauseof transfers they hold the mail for a little bit to see where everyonelands to send the mail to them in the right spot. should be soon.things are great. just got to figure out my new companion. their likepuzzles. when you figure them out you can have fun with them. thanks foreverything. love you all. i will write more when we find that place thathas more email. thanks again. peace out Elder Hyde
